AP Evaluation 3 - Media Institutions

Evaluation 3
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

When our film idea of 'Afflicted' gets greenlighted we would then need to consider a production company to help find a distributor for our film to be advertised successfully. The distributor is in charge of marketing the film before it's release and appealing to the targeted audience, which in our case is 15+, men and women of a middle class background.

Our film would need to be distributed to an essentially niche 'art-house' audience but with the recent success of 'Black Swan', of which 'Afflicted' is similar in genre, we feel that our film could also be distributed to a mainstream mass audience.

Distribution companies that I have researched include Fox Searchlight Pictures, Paramount Classics, Miramax and Optimum Releasing. For our particular film i would hope to use Optimum Releasing as it is a British based distribution company that focuses on independent films. They are one of the most prominent distributors in the UK concerning independent cinema.

Afflicted would most likely be screened in art-house cinemas such as Curzon in London, however seeing as we would also like to appeal to a wider audience we would have a national release in mainstream cinemas such as Odeon and Vue.
